- Abstract
The article examines the role of Peter Mark Kahn, former anti-Czarist radical, in the early development of the University of Judaism in Los Angeles, California. Because of his commitment to labor and humanitarian issues, he chose to serve a prominent role in the institutional life of the Jewish community in the city. To help strengthen and legitimize Jewish education in the city, he has entered into a relationship with the American Association for Jewish Education and obtained permission from the Jewish Theological Seminary to hire professor Samuel Dinin. His connection with the seminary was essential to the establishment of the university.
