- Title
CRYPTO-JEWS OF THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST.
- Authors
Alexy, Trudi
- Abstract
The article recounts Trudi Alexy's search for herself as she became intrigued by residents of the American Southwest who were of Spanish descent and the story of Jews who were exiled from Spain. Her interest was aroused while compiling oral histories on five hundred years of the relationship between Spain and the Jews since she herself had come from Barcelona after she and her family fled from Prague during World War II. In the course of her research, Alexy felt a connection to an informant named Matthew and instinctively identified with him as a spiritual brother. Matthew shared information with her regarding Secret Jews, or Crypto-Jews, who were scattered throughout America.
