- Abstract
The article focuses on Philip Hornbein, a lawyer and human rights defender from Denver, Colorado. He was born in New York City on February 12, 1879 to Orthodox Jewish Eastern European immigrants. His family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1880 when he was one year old. As a young man, the author noted that Hornbein showed eloquence and gift for debate. He graduated from the University of Denver Law School in 1901. He moved to Cripple Creek, Colorado where he opened his first office in 1902 and became a law partner of Alfred Muller, a prominent Jewish attorney. Hornbein moved back to Denver in the fall of 1902 where he partnered with another lawyer named Mr. Rockwell. He married Flora Anfenger on February 12, 1905 and had three children. He passed away on February 16, 1962 at the age of 83.
