- Abstract
In this paper we highlight the dependence of organizational trust on ethics management tools such as ethics code, ethics training, ethics officer, ethics audit etc. Relying on prior research we state that advancement of organizational trust is a process which involves organizational practices based on ethical principles. Since ethics management tools are directed at managing organizational values, principles, behaviour norms in an organization, the tools can reinforce use of ethical organizational practices. When ethics management tools and ethical organizational practices are used in tandem, organizational trust can be advanced. The interrelations among the three variables are summarized in the conceptual model. The model is hypothesized and empirically tested with a survey in Lithuanian organizations. The research findings confirm the interdependence of the variables. The importance of ethics management tools is proved to be particularly significant when organizational values and principles are integrated into organizational practices. The research findings contain important implications to advancement of trust in organizations operating in postsocialist countries where trust in the society and organizations is low due to certain social-historical causes. Besides, we enhance knowledge about the role of ethics management tools in advancing organizational trust which has not been sufficiently studied in a post-socialist context.
