- Abstract
The article discusses the use of scheduled intravenous (IV) opioids in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Pain assessment and control are important priorities in ICU care, but opioids have limitations and safety concerns. The article suggests strategies to reduce scheduled IV opioid use, such as using non-opioid analgesics, implementing pain management protocols, and considering alternative therapies. The article also emphasizes the need for better communication with patients and families about the risks and benefits of opioids, as well as the development of non-opioid analgesic alternatives.
