- Abstract
The article offers information on the legal system of Uganda which is based on English Common Law and African Customary Law. It mentions several stipulations of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda which include the right to freedom of association which shall include the freedom to form and join associations or unions, freedom of speech and expression, including freedom of the press and other media, and freedom of assembly. It discusses several civil society organizations (CSOs) that can be formed through provisions from Ugandan laws including nongovernment organizations (NGOs), trusts and foundations, and community based organizations (CBOs). It also mentions several legal issues under the NGO Act of 2006 that affect CSOs which include narrow definition of NGOs and burdens NGOs.
