- Abstract
The article presents a study that compares the shading effectiveness of five different street tree species in Manchester, England. The author states that shade during sunny days is one of the major benefits of urban trees. Urban trees also reduce heat stored in engineered surfaces and lowers the heat load on people. The study found that tree species like Crataegus laevigata and Pyrus calleryana that have higher leaf area index (LAI), provide more cooling than other species.
