- Abstract
The article discusses the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the 2011 case Sorrell v. IMS Health Inc. which deals with privacy rights in the disclosure of identifiable pharmaceutical prescription information as of June 2012. A patient's rights under several pieces of legislation are examined, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the Restore Online Shoppers Confidence Act. A potential judicial compromise of the physician-patient relationship is also addressed.
