- Abstract
The article presents a response to comments on the paper "The Devaluation of Life." It explains the context of benefit-cost analysis which provides a useful starting point for understanding the policy application of the value of statistical life (VSL) measure. It discusses the concern raised over the moral issues involved in valuing lives and the attempts to evade the intrinsic valuations of life. The problem of squaring lives saved with money and the role of symbolism are both addressed.
