- Authors
Klenck, Deborah J. Knuth
- Abstract
The article discusses the characteristics of good brothers who can also be good husbands based on the novels of Jane Austen. In "Sense and Sensibility," Colonel Brandon was able to win the sympathy of Marianne Dashwood due to his ability to converse with women stemming from his love for his foster-sister Eliza. Captain Wentworth used his image as a naval officer to impress Louisa Musgroves in "Persuasion." In "Pride and Prejudice," Fitzwilliam Darcy influenced his sister to read books, a trait he also likes about his future wife Elizabeth Bennet.
