- Abstract
The article discusses witnessing and martyrdom in the anarchist tradition. It says that anarchists were the first nonreligiously grounded group to transform public witnessing and martyrdom into a central means of propagandizing. Also cited are influential cases of anarchist martyrdom occurred in the U.S., including the Chicago Haymarket affair in Illinois. It adds that the experience of imprisonment disclosed to the anarchists the truth of their convictions.
