- Title
FIRST RECORD OF ASPHONDYLIA WEBSTERI (DIPTERA: CECIDOMYIIDAE) INFESTING HASS AVOCADOS.
- Authors
Hoddle, Mark S.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of Asphondylia websteri in infesting hass avocados. The author explains that the polyphagous galling midge attacks immature fruiting bodies of native and exotic plants in the southwestern part of the U.S. Researchers collected specimens of A. websteri adults and pupal cases reared from Hass avocados. Larvae of the midge were heavily parasitized by 5 species of hymenopteran parasitoids in 4 families. However, they found that the midge has not been recorded attacking young Hass fruit or other avocado cultivars.
