- Abstract
Literature has shown that the level of social interaction of individuals goes a long way to determine how bold they will be in talking in the public. Being bold in speaking in the public domain is very paramount for every undergraduate student in this twenty-first-century world. Thus, every undergraduate student needs to possess adequate social interaction after his or her university education. Besides, the level of social interaction of students is dependent on their level of social interaction anxiety. However, there is a dearth of literature on the level of social interaction anxiety of undergraduate students of Nigerian universities. Thus, this research explored the level of social interaction anxiety of undergraduate students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Descriptive survey research was adopted for this research using a sample of 176 undergraduate students of the Faculty of Education, University of Nigeria. The social interaction anxiety scale (a =.86) was used to collect data which were analysed using frequency, percentage and bar chart. The results indicated that the majority of undergraduate students had an extremely high level of social interaction anxiety. This implies that undergraduate students will not be able to develop fully their social interaction if this high level of social interaction anxiety is not taken care of. Thus, the researchers recommend that a proper intervention program should be arranged for undergraduate students in order to manage effectively their social interaction anxiety.
