- Abstract
A business model is a tool that describes the fundamental pillars of the business and the relationship and coordination between them. From these, an organization creates and provides value to customers, satisfying their needs in a profitable way. Initially, the concept of business model was used in the field of companies that arose from the use of information and communication technology. Now, can the business model work to start a new venture or rethink the current model in businesses such as clothing? The article proposes 9 elements that must be considered to define a business model, applicable to all types of organizations. In addition, success stories from the apparel retail sector are used to characterize, as some organizations define or redefine these pillars. From this, it can be seen that this tool can not only be used for organizations created from the ICT revolution. The business model contributes to rethinking the organization in the face of the challenges of a dynamic and changing environment, without distinction of activity sectors, as well as questioning and rethinking each of the pillars that sustain it. Finally, some questions are proposed to serve as a guide to rethink the business model of an organization.
