- Abstract
The article discusses the use of an author's writing conceit used in 18th- and 19th- century Anglo-American literature in which an editor helps lead the plot, especially in epistolary novels. It focuses particularly on the serial writings of Susanna Rowson, her novel "Sincerity" which was later published as "Sarah; or, The Exemplary Wife," and gender and literature. "Sincerity" was first published in the periodical "Boston Weekly Magazine."
