The article presents an overview of the ways that Indians and the domination of Indian culture were portrayed in the literary works of early European writers. A discussion of literary works from William Shakespeare and Michel de Montaigne, including "The Tempest" and "Of Cannibals", which contained references to Indians and the domination of culture, is presented.
