- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Infantile hemangioma is the most frequent benign neoplasm in children. Nowadays, choice treatment consists of the administration of propranolol via oral, timolol 0.5% gel and pulsed dye laser. OBJECTIVE: To assess the experience in our institution of the treatment of infantile hemangioma with combined therapy of propranolol and pulsed dye laser. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective, observational study was done, in which database of patients who received treatment of pulsed dye laser of infantile hemangioma of University Hospital Dr. Jose Eleuterio Gonzalez from January 2012 to July 2016 was reviewed. The iconographies of each patient before and after the laser treatment were evaluated applying an analogue visual scale by a pediatric dermatologist and a dermatologist surgeon. RESULTS: Nine cases were included. We found a significant decrease in telangiectasias and improvement in the superficial component, mainly in the areas where the lesions were flat. No improvement was observed in the deep component. The limitations of this study are a small sample and difficulties in the follow-up of patients. CONCLUSION: Combined treatments with propranolol and pulsed dye laser allow to obtain satisfactory response mainly in the superficial component of infantile hemangioma.
