- Abstract
The article explores the creation of documentaries as mediated representations of the real world situations they intend to record. Topics discussed include the principal discursive functions of documentary films, the disadvantages of focusing on the nonfiction filmmaker's mediation of reality and the argument by film scholars to view performance as a central component of non-fiction discourse. Also mentioned is the influence of star image on the construction of documentary character.
