- Authors
Seifried, Chad S.; Katz, Matthew
- Abstract
The article looks at football games staged by the U.S. military in domestic and international locations during the 20th century. According to the authors, football and the U.S. military became closely connected as a result of the belief that the sport was a useful war preparation activity. Details on the role of football games in improving the morale of U.S. soldiers stationed in foreign lands, and improving military relations with local inhabitants, are presented. Other topics include football news items and information distributed to soldiers through the U.S. Office of War Information (OWI) and the role of military football teams' strategies in modern recreational football.
