- Title
New Life for Local Poetry: Modeling Hometown Poets.
- Authors
Blachfield, Cathy
- Abstract
The author explains her use of the modeling technique to teach the poems "My Grandmother Would Rock Quietly and Hum," by Leonard Adamé and "A Tropical Garden in the San Joaquin Valley," by Soul Vang to a tenth grade English class. The poets are from California. She mentions her practice of reading a poem aloud and pausing where she wants her students to concentrate. She notes that her use of a Southeast Asian poet is aimed at Southeast Asian students. She claims the students expressed a cultural awareness within their writing due to the exercise.
