- Abstract
The article focuses on Addison's disease (AD), an endocrine disorder that can cause adrenal insufficiency and a chronic condition of adrenocortical hypofunction. The etiology and epidemiology of AD, the clinical presentation of AD that includes fatigue, the diagnosis of AD, the treatment of AD with corticosteroid therapy, and the causes of Addisonian crises are discussed. Illustrations show the hyperpigmentation or bronzing that resulted when a patient's skin was exposed to the sun and a brown pigmentation on the buccal mucosa.
