- Abstract
The article discusses the need to reconsider the endpoints used in studies on acute kidney injury (AKI) and acute kidney disease (AKD). The current criteria for diagnosing AKI based on urinary output and serum creatinine levels have limitations, such as poor specificity and variability. The study suggests that AKD, which includes both functional and structural criteria, may be a better endpoint to assess kidney injury and its outcomes. The study also highlights the importance of considering individual factors, such as sex and comorbidities, in AKI management and the development of personalized therapies. Further research is needed to explore the potential benefits of early intervention and new therapies in improving kidney recovery and reducing the burden of chronic kidney disease.
