- Title
Sepsis: PCSK9 blockade helps clear pathogenic lipids.
- Authors
Bray, Natasha
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of subtilisin kexin type 9 proprotein convertase (PCSK9) in the removal of bacterial lipids on hepatic cells. It highlights the importance of lipids in initiating the uncontrolled systemic inflammatory response in sepsis by decreasing the density of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLRs) on hepatic cells. It examines the effect of PCSK9-specific antibody in a mouse model of sepsis weakened by cytokine and chemokine production.
