- Title
The Web@20: thoughts about utopias, technology, and collaborative science.
- Authors
Freeman, Ted
- Abstract
The author discusses the idealism of the original internet. He quotes scientists as diverse as Tim Berners-Lee, who developed the internet concept in 1989, Vannevar Bush, who articulated the need in 1945, and Sir Francis Bacon, who conceived of a scientific utopia in 1627. He likens the utopianism of the original internet to that of the 1969 Woodstock music festival, which used collaboration against corporate control, and wonders whether Web 2.0 can do the same.
