- Abstract
A laboratory study was conducted to assess the parasitization ability and adult emergence percentage of Trichogramma japonicum and Trichogramma chilonis on eggs of Corcyra cephalonica which were reared on ten different diets viz. Sorghum, maize, bajra, ragi and broken rice alone and their combinations in 1:1 ratio with additives (40gm groundnut kernel powder and 5 gm dry yeast). The results revealed that per cent parasitization was significantly differed among the diet treatment for both species of Trichogramma. Likewise both the species recorded highest parasitization (>78%) in T6 treatment, whereas T10 (Bajra+Broken rice + additives) and T5 (broken rice alone) recorded lowest parasitization for T.japonicum (52.33) and T.chilonis (54.00), respectively. Similarly T6 recorded the highest per cent of adult emergence (>80%) for both the species of Trichogramma, whereas T5 observed to produce lowest per cent of adult emergence (<53%) for both the species. Among ten treatments used, T6 (Bajra+maize +additives) was found most effective diet for Trichogramma rearing as proved from the present study by displaying highest percent parasitization and percent adult emergence, thus this diet combination needs to be included in rearing to improve the efficiency of the parasitoids.
