The Responsibility of Counselors and Psychologists in Preventing Nuclear Warfare.
- Authors
Ellis, Albert
- Abstract
This is a comment on Gearhart's "The Counselor in a Nuclear World: A Rationale for Awareness and Action," with an emphasis on the dangers of religious zealotism. <BR> Gearhart (this issue) presents many controversial and complex questions, some of which I have commented on elsewhere t Ellis, 1983a) and some of which I shall briefly address due to space limitations. First, I agree with almost all of Gearhart's views about counselors and psychologists helping their clients to face the realities of nuclear war and to deal effectively with the many psychological problems that arise when people think about, let alone actually experience, nuclear warfare. In addition to the points made by Gearhart, there are a few more reasons why counselors and therapists had better try to help their specific clients and the people of the world in general to confront and work effectively against all kinds of nuclear threats.
