- Abstract
The personalities who educate the people who shape history should not be condemned to get lost in the dark corridors of time, on the contrary, their life and scientific activities should be illuminated and presented to the world of science as much as possible. Of these personalities is Qutayba b. Sa‘īd (d. 240/855).Qutayba was born in 150/767 in a village of the city of Balkh in the Khorasan region and became a student of the great Ḥadīth scholars such as al-Layth b. Sa‘d (d. 174/791), Mālik b. Anas (d. 179/796), Hammād b. Zayd (d. 179/796) and Sufyān b. ‘Uyayna (d. 198/814).The great muḥaddith authors of the third century of hijra particularly Ahmad b. Hanbal (d. 241/855), al-Bukhārī(d. 256/870) and Muslim (d. 261/875) included in their works the Ḥadīth narratives of Qutayba whose alteration of his scientific adventure from the ra’y school to the Ḥadīth school after changing his views under the influence of a dream, he had in his youth, marked a milestone in his life. This article examines the biography of Qutayba, who is like a significant station for the narratives to reach the famous authors, his main critical points, educational journeys, teachers, students and contributions to the science of Ḥadīth as well as the distribution of his narratives across the chapters of Muslim’s Ṣaḥīḥdue to the fact that his narratives are mostly narrated in this work.
