- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Romantic Relationship Enrichment Program (RREP), which is a premarital relationship enrichment program based on systemic approach, on romantic relationships and romantic belief levels of young adults in romantic relation. This study was carried out via mixed research method including both quantitative and qualitative methods. So as to determine the effect level of independent variables over dependent variables, an experimental research design including the randomized pretest – posttest control group design was applied, while phenomenological method was employed in order to determine the views of the participants over their awareness about RREP. The study group consisted of 8 couples: 4 couples in the experimental group and 4 couples in the control group. The experimental group was exposed to RREP including 11 sessions lasting 120 minutes each, whereas the control group did not receive the program. The Romantic Beliefs Scale was used so as to measure the level of romantic beliefs and Romantic Relationship Satisfaction Scale was applied to find out the relationship satisfaction. RREP interview form was also used to determine study group’s beliefs on RREP process. Qualitative findings of the research were analysed trough protest - posttest of both study and control group and Wilcoxon signed-rank test as the monitoring test. According to the qualitative findings, RREP was eline to increase the level of couples' relationship satisfaction (ze satisfaction= -2.53, p<.05) and this impact lasts two months (ze satisfaction= -.95, p>.05). On the other hand, it was found that RREP had no effects on the couples’ romantic belief levels (ze.belief= -1.40, zc.belief=-.70, p>.05). In terms of qualitative findings, f and % were calculated via content analysis through thematic coding. In terms of qualitative findings, more than half of the participants declared that they gained awareness about the perception of the problem and family of origin and also claimed that they were mostly impressed by genograms. All the participants found the program beneficial.
