- Abstract
This article discusses a study on the use of the anticonvulsant agent vigabatrin in the treatment of alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS). Topics include the commonly held belief that y-Aminobutyrate (GABA) mechanisms are responsible for both AWS and chronic alcohol abuse, vigabatrin's function as an irreversible blocker of GABA transaminase, and the positive side-effects profile exhibited by the drug.
