- Abstract
Raising a child with a profound learning disability and complex health and behavioural problems can be very difficult at times. However, when this is coupled with being a learning disability nurse, it brings about its own unique challenges. In this article I describe what life is like having Nia, and the emotions involved in being her mum and being a nurse. I also discuss the particular difficulties faced by parents of individuals who have a dual diagnosis of Down's syndrome and autism spectrum disorder.
