- Abstract
The article presents a summary of a study focusing on Abdominal pain and malabsorption due to tissue deposition of clofazimine (Lamprene) crystals. In this study, researchers describe a syndrome of abdominal pain and malabsorption due to widespread intra-abdominal deposition of the anti-leprosy drug clofazimine (Lamprene B663) which, in this case, ultimately proved fatal, despite stopping the drug. The small bowel showed purple-brown pigmentation which increased progressively as far as the distal ileum. The lacteals were outlined by the same pigment, there was submueosal oedema and the root of the mesentery contained a pool of shimmering, apparently crystalline, purple pigment. No intact mesenteric gland could be identified.
