- Abstract
This article focuses on a research conducted to study age and sex distribution of the incidence of contact sensitivity to standard allergens. Between 1984 and 1986, 1785 patients were patch tested in the Department of Dermatology, University of Utrecht Hospital, Utrecht, the Netherlands, with the European standard series. All were either suspected of having contact allergy or had a dermatitis for which a contributing contact allergy could not be ruled out. The tests were applied and read after 48 and 72 hours. The criterion for a positive reaction was an inflammatory response with papulovesicles and infiltration after either 48 or 72 hours.
