- Abstract
This article focuses on a case study of a 28 year boatbuilder, who had developed contact allergy to unsaturated polyester. He had worked for 4 years as a boat builder. The boats were made of different types of plastic including polyester. The onset of hand eczema came 2 years after he had started working as a boatbuilder and it periodically became worse, spreading to the trunk, extremities and face. The standard test and the chromium titration revealed chromium allergy. Positive reactions to Crystic 114E® unsaturated polyester in styrene solution and to the base resin in the serial dilution test suggest contact allergy to the base resin.
