- Abstract
Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are characterized by a tangle of arteries and veins that are connected to each other through a bypass in the capillary bed (International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies, [4]) and they can be either asymptomatic or cause variable pain or bleeding leading to medical problems or decreased quality of life (Lee et al., [7]). (b) Angiography showing arteries and veins connected to each other through a bypass in the capillary bed (nidus) consistent with arteriovenous malformation. The clinical management of an AVM ranges from conservative approaches for AVMs with minor symptoms or asymptomatic to different combinations of sclerotherapy, endovascular embolization, or surgery for symptomatic AVMs (Lee, Baumgartner, & Berlien, [6]).
