- Abstract
The article presents the case of mycoplasma-like organism (MLO) with broad bean phyllody in the Sudan. Phyllody of broad bean was first reported in the Sudan by the researcher who succeeded in transmitting the causal agent by grafting but not by sap inoculation or by the leafhopper empoasca lybica berg. The disease is characterized by the development of abnormal green structures in place of normal flower parts, which results in sterility, and by a proliferation of basal and axillary shoots. It has been assumed, by analogy with diseases in other species showing similar symptoms, that broad bean phyllody is caused by a MLO, but is not been confirmed by electron microscopy.
