- Abstract
Robert Prosser White died 14 years after he had endowed an "Annual Oration on the Progress of Dermatology." He had many human attributes and interests. He was something of a poet, he endowed painters, musicians and travelers. White's life and work has been fully recorded by R.M.B. MacKenna. There is little left to say about him. But there is one facet that has not been covered. He made a tremendous voyage of discovery. It is the theme of the dermatologist's voyage that is taken as the subject here. Of the many great voyages that mend have made, some have become legend and have been sung by poets or recorded by writers, the source of delight to men who had time to listen or to read, of enthrallment to children at bedtime and to the old in the autumn years. White made a splendid voyage and has left a permanent record of it. His achievements will not be equaled, which are remarkable indeed for one who began life as a general practitioner in a small town.
