- Title
Exile as the Inaudible Accent in Germaine de Staël's "Corinne, ou l'Italie."
- Authors
Yota Batsaki
- Abstract
Presents literary criticism of "Corinne, ou l'Italie" by Germaine de Staël, particularly the use of translation, gender, and language in the book. The author's criticism is informed by the books "The Monolingualism of the Other," by Jacques Derrida and "Mother Tongues," by Barbara Johnson. De Staël's exile from France to Switzerland and her knowledge of German literature, which informed her work in terms of the accent, was an issue for de Staël and her characters.
