- Abstract
Asthma is a disorder marked by hypersensitivity of the pathways due to its narrowing and bronchospasm. There's increased probability of developing studies on the disease, based on a study of the time series of deaths between the years 2006 to 2015 in the city of Manaus. Data were extracted from the Mortality Information System (SIM) and tabulated in an Excel® worksheet. Afterwards, they were transferred to the Geographic Information System (GIS), generating a map of the temporal series of deaths. Regarding the results, 137 deaths occurred between 2006 and 2015 with an annual average of 13.7 cases. The frequency of deaths was higher in the female average, with 62% of the total cases diagnosed. The mean age was 55 years. Of all cases, 19.2% (n = 27) of the individuals presented 75 years. An analysis of the Urban Welfare Index (IBEU) pointed out the failures in the urban infrastructure, where 93% of the concentration areas revealed an increase in the density of people per dormitory, which is a factor determining in the worsening of asthma. The detection of this problem evokes a necessity of public health planning policies in the background of Health Geography's studies in urban areas.
