- Abstract
The use of hydro-retentive polymers incorporated in the substrate has shown to be an alternative management for the initial establishment of commercial nursery seedlings. In this work, we investigated the use of different dosages of the hydro-retentive polymer, incorporated to the substrate, using different irrigation slides for the production of clonal eucalyptus seedlings. The experiment was set up in a 4x3 factorial scheme, with the dose factor of the polymer at four levels (0.0, 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 kg m-3) and the three-level irrigation blade factor (Lo, LR30 and LR50) in a completely randomized design with five replicates. Three irrigation blades were used, defined as: operational blade; LR30 - blade with 30% reduction of Lo and LR50 - blade with 50% reduction of Lo. Stake rooting, survival, height, collection diameter, and leaf water potential of the seedlings were evaluated. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the polymer negatively affected the rooting of the cuttings and the survival of the plants, as the leaf of water in the substrate decreased. The use of the LR30, without the use of the hydroretentive polymer (dose of 0.0 kg m-3), was the management that favored the establishment of the seedlings, thus contributing to the growth in height and diameter of the collection, besides the initial rooting and the survival of plants.
