- Abstract
The article examines the efficacy of cryotherapy in the treatment of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and improvement of athletic performance. It focuses on systemic response following exposure to cold that is attributed to the decrease of blood flow. It discusses the suppression of inflammation by nerve fibers that are stimulated by the cold application. It explores the need to establish guidelines on the treatment of DOMS by cryotherapy.
