- Abstract
"Mexican Americans with Moxie: A Transgenerational History of El Movimiento Chicano in Ventura County, California, 1945–1975" by Frank P. Barajas is a book that challenges the notion of generational divisions within the Chicano movement. Barajas focuses on Ventura County and reveals that Mexican Americans in the region collaborated across generations to support farmworkers, victims of police brutality, antiwar protests, and desegregation efforts. The book highlights the fluidity between rural and urban, migrant and native, and emphasizes the intergenerational cast that played a significant role in political campaigns in the area. Barajas also explores the experiences of ethnic Mexicans in relation to police brutality, educational discrimination, and the Vietnam War. The book reframes the understanding of ethnic Mexican political generations and sheds light on the history of Mexican Americans in the United States.
