- Abstract
In ending with a close reading of the architectural layout and decorative schemes of this building, Geraghty puts forward a convincing argument that it was the Mausoleum that first led Eugénie to purchase and subsequently to renovate Farnborough Hill. In this superbly illustrated book, architectural historian Anthony Geraghty visually reconstructs the later years of Empress Eugénie, following the untimely deaths of her husband, Napoleon III, in 1873, and of her son, the Prince Imperial, in 1879.
