- Abstract
The article discusses two books: "Australia's Tasman Wars: Colonial Australia and Conflict in New Zealand, 1800-1850" by Craig Wilcox and "The Fate of the Land, Ko ngā Ākina a ngā Rangatira: Māori Political Struggle in the Liberal Era, 1891–1912" by Danny Keenan. Wilcox's book explores the violent encounters between Sydney traders and Māori communities in New Zealand during the early 19th century, challenging the notion of white brotherhood between Australians and New Zealanders. Keenan's book focuses on Māori engagement with the Ballance, Seddon, and Ward Liberal governments from 1891 to 1912, highlighting the perspectives of Māori leaders and politicians during this period. The article suggests that these books offer new insights into Australian colonial history and Māori political struggle, respectively.
