- Abstract
Behçet's syndrome (BS) is a chronic condition, characterised by oral and genital ulcers, ocular inflammation and systemic complications. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is almost always present in BS cases. A clinical diagnosis is usually made in the presence of at least two other manifestations besides the oral aphthae. Systemic manifestations include thrombophlebitis, rashes, arthritis, cardiovascular disease and central nervous system involvement. BS is a relatively common disorder in countries like Turkey and Japan. There is no cure, but drugs such as corticosteroids, azathioprine, chlorambucil, colchicine and thalidomide have all had some success in ameliorating BS.
