- Abstract
Objectives: This study investigated the proficiency level of primary school teachers for teaching science in English as medium of instruction. Major objective of the study was to investigate the proficiency level of teachers in teaching of science at primary level and sub objectives was to find difference between the proficiency level of arts and science academic background teachers. Design Methodology: Population of the study was all the 1453 primary school teachers in three Tehsils of district Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan. From these tehsils, 436 teachers were selected through proportionate random sampling techniques. Data was collected through a self-developed questionnaire with 0.79 reliability level and was validated through experts. Data was analyzed through SPSS 21 by applying descriptive and inferential statics. Findings: Findings of the study showed that teachers have low proficiency level and significant difference between the proficiency level of arts and science background teachers was found. Recommendations: Recommendations of the study were (1) to induct at least one such teacher having an academic background in science. (2) To frame policies for arrangement of regular workshops for teachers about science teaching. (3) Similar research was recommended to be conducted on female primary school teachers and in other non-language subjects like mathematics etc.
