Title
A reddish sun over Exeter, Devon.
Abstract
I A reddish sun over Exeter, Devon, seen at 0930 utc on 16 October 2017. The discolouration is due to Saharan dust and Portuguese wildfire smoke drawn north in the southerly flow to the east of storm Ophelia, here seen through layers of altostratus that formed part of the extensive, though often rather thin, frontal cloud band on the eastern fringes of the storm (see front cover image of this issue). Patches of stratus fractus and stratocumulus are evident below the altostratus.
