- Title
The Kosovo Precedent and the 'Moral Hazard' of Secession.
- Authors
Kemoklidze, Nino
- Abstract
The article offers the author's insights regarding the right to secession by reflecting on the declaration of independence of Kosovo from Serbia on February 17, 2008. He relates on whether or not the negative consequences of an internationally recognized right to self-determination can outweigh the benefits in the 21st century. He concludes that remedial secession may foster violence by creating moral hazard rather than protecting the ethnic minorities from the violence perpetrated by the state.
