- Abstract
The fact that wars take place is readily apparent. What may not be as immediately apparent are the major strides that have been made over time in reducing the occurrence of war. While the view that "the world has become more dangerous" might seem at first glance to be a valid argument, Dr. Joshua Goldstein, in his book 'Winning the War on War: The Decline of Armed Conflict World-wide', sets out to challenge this perspective and ultimately disprove it, by describing the extent to which this statement is untrue and offering empirical evidence. Attributing much of the peacemaking, peacebuilding, and peacekeeping success to the United Nations, in 'Winning the War' Dr. Goldstein stresses the importance of international collaboration and cooperation in avoiding war and maintaining peace. The author expresses the hope that by following the recommendations made in his book, the global community will be able to create an objective roadmap towards further peace achievements.
