The author presents silence and speech as contrasting essential elements of any spiritual journey. Topics discussed include two 14th-century mystical texts that exemplified the cataphatic and apophatic traditions of Christian spirituality, including Julian of Norwich's "Revelations of Divine Love or Showings," and the anonymous "The Cloud of Unknowing," information on Julian's vision of Christ's passion, and distinction between the apophatic and cataphatic.
