- Abstract
An essay about the relationship between Latino identity and the various ways it is shaped by language of choice and by shared or assumed cultural and literary traditions is presented. The author describes the context in which the poem titled "Learning English" might best be understood. Some general qualities that one might reasonably expect to be characteristic of a Latino writer are cited. In the essay, the author also presents a celebratory poem aimed at illustrating his identity as a Latino poet.
